![]() The "Test" aspects are basically Azure subscriptions that include CPU time, and that's what you're paying for. ![]() These are sold separately or as a bundle, and there is a matrix which offers are available through which retain channels. The way I understand it, there are are two main aspects: the software, and the subscription service. It's surprisingly difficult to find all this information in a single place. Hopefully this will help anyone else searching for this info. Couldn't tell you where to actually download it, but I haven't gone looking yet either. A glaring gap is that there's no SQL server licensing, but that isn't worth the enterprise subscription IMHO.Okay, I was mistaken - SQL server (and probably all the other stuff I didn't see) is available somewhere, it just doesn't need a key to activate. Pickings are a bit slim for non-OS stuff - this is fine for my purposes, but YMMV. Most things have a limit of 5 keys you can generate, but you may be able to get away with multiple activations on a single key - I haven't tried that yet. Keys are perpetual, and keys are limited. Test Pro doesn't appear to have any extra software available either - if you want more, you've got to go for the Enterprise subscription (at almost $6k - a lot harder to justify for personal use.) Not super clear on what those tools are exactly, but if you're just looking for something MSDN-like, you want the plain Pro subscription. The difference between Pro and Test Pro is apparently in some of the tools available. Holy shit there is so much software available, including all the Operating System images I was looking for in the first place. Visual Studio Pro IS your MSDN replacement. And then I have a couple more answers after buying the subscription. If I do buy from a reseller, am I locked into continuing to renew through them?Īfter a significant amount of time digging around for more answers (and sitting through a chat with someone from Microsoft sales, which was a lot less painful than expected,) I found some answers here. CDW? Prices seem to be half of what they are on the MS site. Can someone confirm?Īm I going to get the same thing from a reseller, e.g. What am I missing?īased on my reading, the licenses that come with MSDN are perpetual - once I have a key/keys, I don't need to reinstall, I keep it if I stop subscribing, etc. Test Pro looks to be the same as Pro as far as features go (and doesn't come with VS, not that I'd use it,) but is twice the price. I get access to everything listed in the Excel file on the VS website (lol Win 3.1) plus some Azure credit (which I'd also like to take advantage of for learning's sake.) Evaluation versions could be an option for new OSes, but unfortunately not older ones. My intent is to buy this subscription to both mess around with things on old OSes that I don't understand, and build out a VM network to mess around with things on new OSes that I don't understand. but I suspect someone here has navigated this mess before and can advise a bit more directly. I spent a few hours yesterday trying to look for information, and found some stuff. ![]() I'm looking at VS Pro/VS Test Pro subscriptions - the new MSDN equivalent as far as I can tell - and the options confuse the hell out of me.
